Becoming the veterinarian you want to be doesn’t happen overnight. Through guided experience, reflection, and support, you’ll be ready to help pet patients through any situation. Our guided onboarding and mentorship journey, at multiple hospitals and with multiple mentors, is designed to help you grow step by step, strengthening your skills, confidence, and independence in a way that feels challenging, but never overwhelming. Months 1-2
Orientation & Understanding the Hospital Flow
- You’ll learn how the hospital truly operates, from reception to surgery
- You’ll understand hospital workflows and protocols
- You will see how every role contributes to patient care and how Lovet succeeds as a team
Months 3-4
Developing Clinical Communication & Exam Room Skills
- You will strengthen client communication, history-taking, physical exams, and treatment planning.
- You’ll practice presenting diagnostics and recommendations clearly and compassionately
- You’ll learn more about Lovet’s flexible payment options , which allow you to stay focused on patient care and provide more care to more patients
Month 5-6
Leading with Support & Refining Efficiency
- You’ll begin leading appointments, starting with wellness visits and growing to more complex cases, with daily feedback from your mentors
- You will refine efficiency, delegation, and clinical flow at a supportive pace that mirrors real-world scheduling without feeling overwhelming
Months 7-9
Independence, Time Management & Long-Term Growth
- You will strengthen time management, multitasking, and team leadership across exam and surgery days
- You and your mentor will set long-term growth goals — because development doesn’t stop after onboarding
Months 10-12 & Ongoing
Surgery and Skills Training (Integrated Throughout Program)
- Surgical learning is embedded into your day-to-day clinical schedules, but ramps up as your clinical skills improve
- You’ll observe and participate in surgical cases appropriate to your experience level, with real-time coaching and feedback before, during, and after procedures
- Lovet’s integrated approach supports steady skill development while maintaining continuity of patient care
Continuous mentorship and growth
Mentorship at Lovet doesn’t stop once your program ends. Following completion of the Lovet mentorship program, doctors continue building their skills through:
- Continuing education opportunities — eligible veterinarians are awarded an unlimited annual CE allowance
- Ongoing mentorship conversations with multiple mentors
- Advanced case collaboration
- Permanent membership in the Lovet Institute of Training, our hands-on training program designed to build and refine surgical techniques
